Blue Christmas

‘Blue Christmas'

A service of remembrance and hope

Sunday 13 December 2020, 3.30 pm in church

Speaker: James Cook

Welcome to ‘Blue Christmas’

Rev. Dr James Cook (Curate)

Christmas can be a time when we’re expected to be happy: jolly songs playing in the shops, festive lights up in the streets, talk of fun times with family and friends.

But the forced merriment of the season can make it an especially painful one. And this year more than any other, Christmas will be tinged with deep sadness and pain for many. The ache of separation from those we’ll be unable to see. The loneliness of those unable to see anyone. Anxiety about what the new year will bring. The memory of those who leave behind an empty chair this Christmas.

Whatever the pain we feel, may this be a space to bring our burdens before God and to find hope in the Christmas story.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come;

thy will be done;

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation;

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

the power and the glory,

for ever and ever.

Amen.
